Start by rinsing the oats under cold water to remove excess starch. This helps to prevent your oat milk from becoming too slimy.
Add the rinsed oats and filtered water to a high-speed blender. Blend on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute until smooth and well-combined.
Pour the blended oat mixture through a nut milk bag, cheesecloth, or a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl or pitcher. Don’t squeeze or press to extract all the liquid.
If you’d like to sweeten your oat milk, add vanilla extract, maple syrup, or your preferred sweetener. A pinch of salt can also enhance the flavor.
Pour the oat milk into a clean jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. Shake well before each use, as homemade oat milk may naturally separate.
