Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
In a bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
Stir in the salt, followed by the sugar and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.
Gradually add the flour and stir until just combined. The dough will be slightly lumpy—don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be firm.
Press the dough evenly into a 9x13-inch baking dish. You can leave it ungreased or line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the top turns golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool and firm up.
Once cooled, cut into squares or bars. Sprinkle granulated or sparkling sugar on top, either before or after cutting.
