Ingredients
Method
- Combine all ingredients and mix well until blended thoroughly
- Store in a glass jar or bottle with a lid
- Keep refrigerated between uses
- I prefer to pour it directly onto wet hair, in small amounts, working it into a lather and adding more until I am able to cover all of my hair...the amount will vary depending on the length and thickness of the hair
Notes
- will last 1 month at room temperature, or up to 6 months in the refrigerator
- if you want a thicker consistency, omit the herbal infusion or decrease the amount, if you want it thinner, add the herbal infusion
- use coconut milk from a can, not the kind you buy in a carton
- omit oil if hair tends to be oily
- in lieu of an herbal infusion, you can use plain water or hydrosol
- use herbs that will help highlight your natural hair color
- there is some concern about castile soap drying out hair and causing color to fade - everyone should always monitor their hair, as we all have different hair types - following with an herbal or ACV hair rinse can help
- in my opinion, if you are using straight castile soap by itself - this may be an issue, but this recipe has the castile soap diluted twice, once with coconut milk, and once with an herbal infusion - again, monitor your hair and adjust the amount of times you use it accordingly
- HERBAL INFUSION: Infusing water with herbs that will add nutrients and shine to your hair. Example: 2 cups of water with 1 cup of dried herbs. Combine in a glass jar and let it sit in a sunny spot for 24 hours. Strain and store. You can also pour 2 cups of boiling water over the 1 cup of herbs, cover and steep for 2-4 hours, strain and store. All purpose herbs to use are: nettle, chamomile, rosemary, lavender. You can also research what herbs are good for specific hair colors.
- This recipe can be adjusted to fit your hair type, as everyone's differs. The formula provided is a good base, but adjust for length, thickness, etc.
