Hot Cacao Bombs
These are a fun way to enjoy a cozy cup of hot chocolate on those cold, winter days! These delicious, chocolate-covered spheres are filled with rich cacao, mini marshmallows, winter spices, and sometimes other sweet surprises like crushed peppermint or chocolate chips. Simply drop one into a mug and pour hot milk over it, watch it melt and release the creamy cacao mix, and stir for the perfect mug of hot chocolate.
- 24 ounces semi-sweet chocolate can use dark chocolate
- 1 cup hot milk or dairy alternative, but do not use water
- 7 tablespoons cane sugar can use sucanat or coconut sugar
- 2 tablespoons cacao powder can use cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg optional
- 10 tablepsoons marshmallow bits do not use mini marshmallows
FOR SHELLS
Place chocolate in a glass bowl and melt over low using the hot water bath method.
Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, spoon 1 tablespoon into each sphere mold, spreading with a pastry brush or the back of a spoon. Reserve some chocolate for sealing up the spheres once filled (you can always make more if necessary).
Place in the freezer for 3-5 minutes.
Remove and add another tablespoon of chocolate and spread around the mold.
Refrigerate or freeze for 10 minutes.
Remove and pop the chocolate out of the molds.
Place each sphere, open side up and fill each mold with 2 tablespoons of cacao mix.
Place an empty sphere on top of a filled sphere and seal by piping the seam of the two spheres with chocolate.
